Ease of Use: 8/10
These were the third AIO’s that we tried, but the first with a soaker not fully sewn in. At first I was hesitant about this style, I’ve never really had an issue with my other AIO’s taking too long to dry, so I didn’t see the need for it. Yet after only a week of use I was in love with this style and this diaper. This diaper dries easily overnight (in a dry climate) and makes spraying poo off so much easier! I really can’t say enough good things about this style or this brand.
This is a one size diaper that fits from 8 pounds to 40 pounds. Pumpkin didn’t start wearing this until 12 pounds and while a little bulky, it fit wonderfully! I don’t know how this would fit on an 8 pounder but I imagine it would work in a pinch. I love the fact that this diaper goes up to 40 pounds about 5 pounds heavier than most of the one size diapers we own. This will easily last you from maybe a month or two after birth until potty training.
Owing to the fact that Thirsties is a name brand I had high expectations in terms of quality and I was not disappointed. All of the edges on this diaper are cleanly sewn, with no loose or dangling threads. The materials all seem extremely high quality and this is by far the softest interior I have ever felt on a diaper. After the first wash the inner material was pilling a little bit but this is a standard problem with all micro fleece. I’m certain the pilling won’t get any worse after repeated washings and can trust that this will hold up to lots of use. We hang dry ours but I’m sure it would still last in the dryer.
At 12 pounds, and on the smallest snap/velcro settings, the Thirsties One Size fit like a dream. Now that Pumpkin is closer to 15 pounds, it’s still fitting perfectly! We have no thigh gap (even with his skinny little legs) and there are no marks on his legs after I remove the diaper. Even my husband is able to get a great fit every time (probably due to the velcro closures). We have also never had a single leak with these, even when we started using them at 12 pounds.
Ease of Use:
These require a tiny bit more prep than other AIO’s we own. The soaker pad is only sewn at one end, which does cause the diaper to dry faster, that needs to be tucked into the diaper before use. This is pretty easy to do after you launder the diaper and fold it to tuck on the shelf (or wherever you store your diapers)- it literally takes 5 seconds. The one issue I have encountered with this is that the soaker is sewn to the front of the diaper which causes it to occasionally bunch up under Pumpkin when sliding the diaper under him. It then needs another 5-10 seconds of readjustment. At first I was a little annoyed with this feature, until Pumpkin pooped in this diaper and I realized that the way the soaker is sewn in allows it to be sprayed into the toilet so much easier. Now I am absolutely in love with the placement of the soaker. If you need extra absorbency you can just set in another layer, there isn’t a pocket in the back but there is a small one in the soaker pad itself. The velcro tabs allow this diaper to be put on similarly to a disposable and my husband prefers this style of velcro tabs to others because you can attach either side first.
Currently on Amazon Thirsties One Size AIO’s range in price from $19.75-$22.00 and the print I ordered was $19.75. This is a little bit pricier than other AIO’s we’ve purchased but it is a name brand. With the slightly steeper price tag (even if you purchase one of their cheapest diapers), you’d have to use this diaper about 80 times before it becomes cheaper than disposables. Because this diaper should last you through potty training (due to the size and superior quality), I don’t see any challenge in using it 80 times and so the price definitely becomes worth it.
Thirsties offers both prints and solid colors in this style of diaper and there is no price difference between prints or solids. There is a price difference between what I assume are last seasons prints/colors and the current rotation. Thirsties has some of my favorite prints available. The majority of their prints are nature/outdoor themed which perfectly suits our family. We are serious mountain bikers and so the mountain bike print is a huge hit. We also live in the midst of the mountains and so any diaper that is mountain themed gets huge love from us. We’ve gotten numerous comments from friends on how cute these diapers are and even received comments on cuteness from complete strangers (Pumpkin generally does not wear pants). I also love that there is a wide variety of prints available along with solid colors. It would be easy to build your stash from the Thirsties collection.
I really love the Thirsties One Size AIO with hook and loop closures. There is an extra step of placing the insert into the diaper, but it really doesn’t take that much extra time and is well worth it for ease of cleaning and drying. The prints are all super cute and the fit is fantastic. Bottom Line: Yes, I would buy this again. As a matter of fact, I have a few more sitting in my Amazon cart right now.
