The first and most helpful thing I have to say about the Funky Fluff LUX Bamboo diaper is that if you’re new to cloth diapering and not sure what style you want (pocket, AIO, AI2), then this is the diaper for you! This diaper offers the versatility of being a pocket diaper, an all in one, and an all in two, which is perfect for someone who prefers a variety of styles or isn’t sure on which method they prefer. I would highly recommend starting your cloth diapering journey with this diaper, so you can try out different styles without breaking the bank.

The Funky Fluff LUX diaper is meant to fit from birth through potty training (7-35+ pounds), and because it has four rise snaps instead of three, this diaper should easily fit even a tiny baby. The diaper system also includes two different sized inserts; small or newborn size and a more substantial or average size. The supplements can be used separately or together, allowing this diaper to last from birth through potty training truly.

This diaper is so well thought out and well made. I usually am not a huge fan of bamboo terry material, but this stuff isn’t too soft and slippery, it’s a little more grippy than other brands we’ve used but still doesn’t irritate Pumpkin’s skin and seems to keep him very comfortable. The diaper is well sewn and put together- these will easily last for a long time without showing their years.

The inserts are also really well made. The edges are nice and even, and the material is durable. After roughly 5-7 washes, the absorbency becomes apparent. These inserts, due to the bamboo material, can hold a TON of liquid. This is a first quality nighttime diaper that should stand up to even a very heavy wetter.

The fit of this diaper is excellent and super trim when you only use one insert. When the supplements are doubled, however (mainly for nighttime), this diaper becomes one of the bulkiest we own and barely fits under clothes. When using both inserts, we also have to go up a rise snap or else it is super awkward to put on Pumpkin. That being said, when using both inserts (for a 12-hour nighttime stretch) we have never had a single leak. Ever. And I’m not super worried about him outgrowing this diaper (even though it does seem to run a tiny bit small similar to Bummis PURE AIO) because as he gets a little wider and taller the inserts will have more room to spread out within the diaper itself and won’t be as bunched up and bulky.

Ease of Use

Honestly, this diaper can be so easy to use; snap on the insert(s) and attach to the baby. You’re going to work a little harder if you choose to use this diaper as an AIO or pocket, but the Funky Fluff LUX is still really easy to stuff or to attach inserts onto. This diaper is also reasonably easy to put on baby as the main snaps line up nicely. The one issue I have with the snaps is that the hip snaps seem too far away. This might be an optical illusion because they’re genuinely only one catch away, but they seem awkward to me, and I haven’t been using them (we haven’t had any fit issues or wing droop even without hip snaps).

At around $25.00 each, you would need to use this diaper about 100 times before it becomes cheaper than disposables. And honestly, because this diaper can be used as an AIO, AI2, or pocket, the price is very reasonable. If you aren’t sure about styles, you could buy a few of these and experiment with the different options without breaking the bank. Granted, if you’re opting to use these as an AI2, they are a little pricier than just the covers and snap-in inserts of other brands.

Funky Fluff offers some cute prints and gorgeous solids. This is the only pure red diaper that we own, and I’ve been surprised by how much I love the colour, it’s so vibrant and gorgeous. I wish they offered more solids and more print options, but there’s enough variety to try these out without repeating. If you solely build your stash out of these (unless you shop multiple diaper stores to find old prints/colours), you are going to have some repetition.

This is an excellent diaper, especially when using both inserts for nighttime. Bottom line: Yes, I would rebuy this. And I would highly recommend this diaper for those that aren’t sure which style of diaper is best suited for their family, or for those families (like ours) who switch between different forms, depending on the time of day or who are taking care of Pumpkin. The price is a little more than a standard AI2 but since this diaper can be used as an AIO or pocket as well, paying the extra money is certainly worth it.

With Pumpkin now needing more absorbency during the daytime, we have required to use both inserts. With both supplements, this diaper is so bulky it just isn’t practical for daytime use. We will try again once Pumpkin is more massive, maybe that will help with how bulky these are. I still like all the options (AIO, AI2, etc.) but am just not digging the bulkiness.
